Pep Guardiola has offered to share this season’s league title with Liverpool as a solution to disruption caused by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The Premier League have been contacted by Manchester City and are considering the proposal to crown the competition’s first ever joint-champions.
“Who knows how long the virus will last?” Guardiola told Soccer on Sunday. “If we play the remaining games, maybe Liverpool win the league, maybe City. It’s a coin toss. Let’s just share the title now and fans can focus on their health, no?”
“Football is not important now,” said the former Barcelona boss. “Say we resume the league at some point. Liverpool win the title? Perhaps City? It’s fifty-fifty. Fans don’t need this stress in this moment. Let’s share the title, like adults.”
“Obviously it will make sense to keep the trophy where it is,” added Guardiola. “Liverpool fans are welcome to visit. Just ring ahead, is my advice.”
