Jürgen Klopp has delivered a mixed appraisal of Darwin Núñez following Liverpool’s 3 – 1 victory over Aston Villa. The £85 million signing was crowned Man of the Match despite missing numerous chances.

“Darwin, wow,” Klopp told Soccer on Sunday. “What can you say about the boy? He was fantastic today, but also shite. We are pleased and furious. In the dressing room I asked the boys to give him a round of applause, and then fined him two weeks’ wages. It’s confusing, to be honest.”

“Darwin has a huge future here,” said the German. “But probably we will sell him in January. It hasn’t worked out, even though he’s been a roaring success. A future Ballon d’Or winner, or a Stars in Their Eyes winner doing Andy Carroll. Tonight Matthew…where the fuck am I going with this? My brain hurts.”

“Someone tell Darwin he’s doing double training tomorrow, for all those misses,” he added. “But also tell him to take tomorrow off. God knows the boy’s earned it.”
