Liverpool will hand debuts to three academy products when they take on Leeds at Elland Road this Sunday afternoon. Larry Smith, John Johnson and Frank Murphy will all make their Premier League bows.

“I’m delighted for the boys,” Jürgen Klopp told Soccer on Sunday. “Franky, Johno and Lar are wonderful 17 year-old kids who just happen to look way, way older. Sorry we forgot to ever mention them before. Not sure what happened there, but what’s important now is that journalists don’t do any digging.”

“For sure, all three will start,” said the German. “Then I’ll probably take them out of the limelight for a long time after the Leeds game. You have to protect young players, and hope everybody forgets about them.”

“No, probably not,” added Klopp, when asked if the suspended trio of Fabinho, Firmino and Alisson will attend Sunday’s game. “They don’t get on with Franky, Johno and Lar. Bit of a powder keg, so best keep them apart.”
