Aston Villa look set to lose out should a Liverpool and UTD-spearheaded rejig of the Premier League be ratified by a majority of clubs next year. ‘Project Big Picture’ proposes a reduction from 20 to 18 clubs, with no place for Aston Villa.
“I can confirm Aston Villa won’t be among the 18,” UTD CEO Ed Woodward told Soccer on Sunday. “The group went back and forward on many details, but ‘No Villa’ was the one thing everybody agreed on. It galvanised us, in a way.”
“No idea,” said Woodward, when asked which other club might lose out. “So long as Villa are one of the two, does it matter? I dare say it doesn’t.”
“No Villa,” repeated the Essex-born businessman, pounding the desk with each syllable.
