Seventeen players have submitted transfer requests in the wake of Manchester City’s unfolding two-year ban from european competition.
Agüero, Sterling, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Ederson, Rodri, Jesus, Silva, Walker, Bravo, Mendy, Laporte, Fernandinho, Foden, Zinchenko, Sané — and even John Stones — have all instructed the club that they wish to leave.
“I was going anyway,” Raheem Sterling told Soccer on Sunday. “Honestly — just forgot to tell anyone. I’ve been meaning to go to Real Madrid for a while, so that’s probably what I’ll do. Has nothing to do with the ban — just fancy a change of scene, is all.”
“City will always be in my heart,” added the winger. “Until I sign for my next club. Then they’ll be in my heart. Is there room in a heart for two clubs? Probably not, but I haven’t studied cardiology, to be fair.”
