Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on FIFA to scrap semi-finals across all competitions to ease fixture congestion caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Norwegian has himself lost four semi-finals since taking the reins at Old Trafford.
“Scrap semis,” Solskjaer told Soccer on Sunday. “Semi-finals I mean — not half-hearted erections. Everybody hates semi-finals, so why not go straight from the quarters to the final? People will say, ‘Then the quarter is the semi by a different name Ole, you dopey cunt.’ But that kind of foul language is unnecessary, to be fair.”
“Maybe scrap semis permanently,” said the former striker. “I’d not miss them. In my experience, they can’t be won. People might point to teams who’ve won semis and even finals. That’s one you’ll need FIFA to explain, because I don’t know how to squeeze through a semi.”
“Semi-final, I mean,” added Solskjaer. “Not a half-arsed erection.”
