Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been downgraded to the role of Caretaker Manager again following crisis talks with Chief Executive Ed Woodward. The Norwegian broke records during his previous stint as caretaker, but UTD’s form collapsed following his full-time appointment.
“I’m honoured to be caretaker again,” Solskjaer told Soccer on Sunday. “Obviously the salary is 92% less — Heidi will have to return her mink coat, and I had to put Helga’s pony Foal Neville to sleep this morning. It’s never nice shooting your daughter’s Shetland pony in the back of the head with a hunting rifle while she watches, but deciding which pets live or die is part and parcel of caretaker management.”
“My job now is to put smiles back on these players’ faces,” sighed the former striker. “Again.”
Paul Pogba insists that Solskjaer is still the right man to lead UTD forward.
“We believe in the caretaker gaffer,” the World Cup winning midfielder told Soccer on Sunday. “Obviously he’s proven that he’s a horrible full-time manager. I downed tools the moment he signed the contract. But when he’s caretaking, I would go through a brick wall for Ole. So long as nobody gives him job security, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and fight for the gaffer.”
“Caretaker gaffer, I mean,” added Pogba.
